The ignition module is more complicated than one might imagine. I was surprised to find two 56 pin integrated circuits inside. There are four massive FETS on the left side. The ignition module might even be thought of as a co-processor for the ECM. The module was designed by Motorola. The lower 56 pin integrated circuit has a NCR logo on it.

The ignition module has a low failure rate. This module failed after 220k miles. There was no spark.
